The delightful Jenn Frederick visited Styer's peony farm this week and did an expert Q&A with Styer's owner Richard Currie.
Top tips from Richard for raising peonies at home:
1. For home garden peonies, cut your stems when they are buds, not blooms, and bring them inside. They'll last longer in the vase.
2. Plant peony roots only one and a half inches deep in the soil. Any deeper and your plant will struggle to bloom.
3. Visit the Festival of the Peony to see 100 varieties of peonies, including Richard's current favorite: Mrs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a soft pink peony that opens in a profusion of spiraling petals.
